Descendants of John McLure

Notes

2. Richard Rankin McLure

"Richard Rankin McLure moved from near Camden in Kershaw District, SC, to near Brundidge, Pike County, AL in 1835 or 1836.  His two oldest sons, John W. and Thomas C., went on the year before and bought land in preparation for the move." (Wm. R. McLure [son of Thomas Carlisle McLure], "McLure Family Record", 1959, page 1).

"White Water Creek ran through the middle of the McLure Settlement.  It was here in 1834 or 1835 that John W. and Thomas C. McLure came from Kershaw Co., Beaver Creek, South Carolina, to purchase land for the family move.  This land was bought by their father, Richard Rankin McLure, from Exekiel Alexander, and was recorded January 2, 1837 , in Deed Book A, Page 240, Pike County, AL, and consisted of 250 acres at the cost of $500.

"Richard Rankin McLure's father was John McLure, born about 1750, and is not known where, but is believed in Pennsylvania.  He married Ann or Annabelle Rankin.  According to records handed down through Thomas Carlisle McLure to his son William Richard, the original John McLure fought in the American Revolution which took place during 1775 and 1783.  John McLure died in 1843 at the age of 93.  His Will and Testament was filed Dec. 13, 1843, in Kershaw Co., SC, in Book of Wills, page 68 and 71.  John and Ann Rankin McLure's children were Richard Rankin, Thomas Carlisle, John, William, Ann McLure Thompson, Jane McLure Quinlon, Elizabeth McLure Smith, Melinda McLure Hixson, Syntha McLure Ussery, Sarah McLure, and Nancy McLure Shields."  (Frank H.
